Take a Peek at the Innovations at Bayt Al-Qur'an & Istiqlal Museum, Presenting Educational Tourism for Today's Generation!
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) Jakarta, News Online – The Bayt Al-Qur'an & Museum Istiqlal (BQMI), managed by the Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf Al-Qur'an (LPMQ), now presents a new, more interative and educational look. This is what made it particulary appealing to the delegation form the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Library, who paid an official visit on Wednesday (June 04, 2025). The delegation, led by Agus Rifai, Ph.D., and comprising Heru Widodo, S.IP., Mudianah Mahmud, S.IP., and Rusdi Tumanggor, was received directly by the Head of LPMQ, H. Abdul Aziz Sidqi, M.Ag. at the Bayt Al-Qur’an & Museum Istiqlal building on TMII Road Gate I in East Jakarta.
The visit aimed to strengthen synergy in the areas of collection development, Al-Qur'an literacy, and integrated library resource management. In addition, it also aimed to take a closer look at the museum concept and Al-Qur'an educational innovations developed by LPMQ. The museum has been in the spotlight for offering a contemporary approach to learning the Al-Qur'an.
“This is not just a museum. We did not expect the museum concept to be this interesting and educational, combining history, technology, and Qur'anic values. It is very inspiring for the younger generation and students today,” said Agus Rifai, Ph.D., when met after the museum tour.
During the visit, the group explored the museum's unique collections, ranging from copies of the Qur'an in various regional languages such as Javanese, Bugis, Madurese, and Acehnese, which demonstrate the diversity of Islamic culture in Indonesia.
They also visited the collection of Mushaf Al-Qur'an Isyarat, a special mushaf for the deaf, and listened to the history and development of Mushaf Al-Qur'an printing from the classical to the digital era.
Equally interesting is the Map of the Distribution of Mushaf Al-Qur'an in the Archipelago, which displays visual data on the distribution and use of Mushaf Al-Qur'an that has been approved by LPMQ in various regions of Indonesia.
It should be noted that the BQMI Museum, which is managed by the Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf Al-Qur'an (LPMQ) is under the auspices of the Research and Development Agency for Religion and Education and Training (Balitbang & Diklat) of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs, built between 1995 and 1997 on land donated by Mrs. Tin Soeharto – specifically to the right of the entrance to the Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) tourist park in East Jakarta, and was officially inaugurated on April 20, 1997, by Mr. Soeharto – the second President of the Republic of Indonesia (source: official LPMQ website: https://lajnah.kemenag.go.id/info-lpmq/). In recent years, the BQMI Museum has actively developed an inclusive and technology-based Qur'anic educational approach.
The BQMI Museum has now transformed into a modern religious educational tourist destination, combining technology and history in one interactive space. This innovation is expected to bring the younger generation closer to the Qur'an in a more relevant way. *RMr
