Rare Collection! Lajnah Library Showcases Islamic Manuscript Heritage at Library Festival 2025

Library Loby, UIN Jakarta, News Online – The Pustaka Lajnah Pentashihan Mushaf Al-Qur’an (LPMQ) captured attention at the Library Festival 2025 held at the University of Islam Negeri (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Library (June 16–20, 2025). The presence of rare and educational collections —ancient Qur’an manuscripts and replicas of historical Qur’an manuscripts— successfully captivated visitors. This showcased the intellectual and cultural wealth of Islam while also serving as an educational tool for Qur’an literacy among the public.

The Bayt Al-Qur’an dan Museum Istiqlal (BQMI) displays a collection of selected interpretations and manuscripts that represent the intellectual and cultural wealth of Islam in the Indonesian archipelago.

One of the rarest collections on display is a handwritten Mushaf Al-Qur'an from Aceh in the 19th century. This manuscript is adorned with captivating Acehnese illuminations, reflecting the high dedication of Nusantara scholars in preserving the originality and beauty of the Qur'an. Additionally, the manuscript serves as evidence of the rich historical, artistic, and spiritual heritage of Islam in the Nusantara region.

In addition to ancient manuscripts, LPMQ displayed replicas of the Mushaf Masyhad Husein and the Mushaf from the Umayyad Dynasty. These replicas, which were made with a high degree of precision, fooled many visitors because they looked so similar to the original manuscripts. BQMI explained that both were educational reproductions designed to introduce the history of the Mushaf visually and factually.

On the other hand, LPMQ also showcases its flagship interpretation products, such as Thematic Interpretation, Scientific Interpretation, and Concise Interpretation. All three were developed as a form of contemporary ijtihad in understanding the Qur'an contextually and rationally. Now, the collection is available in digital format and can be accessed online through the LPMQ digital library platform.

Head of the UIN Jakarta Library, Agus Rifai, PhD., in his statement on Tuesday (17/06) said that the participation of LPMQ and BQMI added a unique touch to this year's Library Festival. “This exhibition not only presents artifacts, but also builds awareness of the importance of preserving Islamic literary heritage,” said Agus Rifai.

Library Festival 2025 is a space for synergy between literacy institutions, publishers, educational communities, and religious institutions. Through the unique collections and narrative-visual approaches presented by LPMQ and BQMI, it serves as a momentum to strengthen Al-Qur'an literacy and appreciation for classical Islamic heritage. *RMr
