Hayatunnisa: Introducing JSTOR 'Advanced Search'
UIN Jakarta Library, News Online, September 04, 2024 - Still in the series of increasing student understanding, especially students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin UIN Jakarta, which is part of the Introduction to Academic and Student Culture (PBAK) 2024, UIN Jakarta Library holds a literacy class to provide information on how to use and utilize electronic databases or e-resources subscribed.
The event, which was held in the 7th floor meeting room of UIN Jakarta Library on Wednesday (September 04, 2024), attracted the attention of ushuluddin students who wanted to improve their ability to utilize electronic databases. Hayatunnisa, one of the UIN Jakarta Library Managers provided information and insights into the use of 'Advanced Search' e-resource JSTOR, one of the world's leading academic databases.
"UIN Jakarta Library not only enriches its physical book collection, but also proactively invests in subscribed e-resources. These digital collections cover a wide range of relevant topics, offering significant searchability to support future academic activities and thesis writing. Access is very easy, it can be accessed within the UIN Jakarta Campus as well as access outside the UIN Jakarta Campus, thus making these e-resources a very important tool for the entire UIN Jakarta academic community.” said Hayatunnisa, in explaining her presentation.
Hayatunnisa explained how to login JSTOR within the UIN Jakarta Campus area. “First, you visit the UIN Jakarta Library website www.perpus.uinjkt.ac.id, then click the 'Library' page, then click 'JSTOR', after that, click 'Login'. Make sure you log in using the uinjkt student email. After successfully logging in, you can already search for scientific articles that you want to search for.” said Hayatunnisa, who explained and assisted students in detail how to log in JSTOR.
After successfully logging in, he explained the advanced search using 'Advanced Search'. “Advanced Search on JSTOR is an advanced search feature that allows users to conduct more specific and detailed searches within the JSTOR database. This feature offers more filter options than a simple search, such as searching by title, author, keyword, publication, or specific time range.” Hayatunnisa explained.
The students who attended seemed enthusiastic and eager to try what had been explained. “This really opened up my information and insights on how to search for more relevant and specific sources in JSTOR,” said Ayu, after trying out the JSTOR search directly.
Hayatunnisa hopes that after attending this literacy class, Ushuluddin Faculty students can utilize e-resources more effectively. “I would like to see students more confident in using these e-resources for coursework or even when preparing a thesis later. With this explanation, they can enrich their studies with more in-depth and focused literature,” she added.
Please note, this activity was attended by all new students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin for the 2024/2025 academic year, every day, until September 13, 2024. Various materials, ranging from the introduction to the use of libraries, online catalogs (OPAC), access to e-resources, to references management tools. In addition to the presentation of material that will be delivered by UIN Jakarta Librarians, new students are immediately practiced on how to use it.
