UIN Jakarta Library, Online News, September 03, 2024 - As part of the 2024 Introduction to Academic and Student Culture (PBAK) activities, new students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, State Islamic University (UIN) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta get the opportunity to learn about how to use the UIN Jakarta Library Online Catalog, or Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). For this session (Tuesday, September 03, 2024) aims to introduce students to facilitate student access to various library collection resources.

Hartono, one of the library managers at UIN Jakarta, led the session. He explained how to use the UIN Jakarta Library Online Catalog, known as the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). This library catalog is a systematically organized list of collections that allows users to find out what collections the library has and where they are located.

“A library catalog is a very important tool that systematically lists library collections. With this catalog, users can easily find out what collections are available in the library and the location of these collections.” Hartono said.

OPAC is a catalog system that can be accessed online by the public. It allows users to browse catalog data digitally to ascertain whether the library has a particular work. In addition, OPAC also provides information on the location of the collection and if connected to the circulation system, can indicate whether the library material sought is available or on loan.

Hartono explained how to use OPAC, as follows:

• - Go to UIN Jakarta Library OPAC page, type in >> tulis.uinjkt.ac.id
• - Enter search keywords, such as title, author or other subjects
  
• - Click search button
  
• - Select one of the appropriate search results
  
• - Click on the listing details to view the collection information
  
• - Check book availability on the availability menu
  
• - If the book is available, note down the call number to locate the book on the shelf
  
• - If the book is on loan, the status will appear 'on loan'
  

“The catalog allows library users to find out what collections the library has and where they are located. By mastering the use of OPAC, students will be better prepared to face academic challenges and utilize everything the library has to offer.” Hartono said, when explaining UIN Jakarta's OPAC.

This activity was attended by all new students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin for the 2024/2025 academic year, which was divided into nine sessions every day, until September 13, 2024. Various materials, ranging from the introduction to the use of libraries, online catalogs (OPAC), access to e-resources, to references management tools. In addition to the presentation of material that will be delivered by UIN Jakarta Librarians, new students are immediately practiced on how to use it.

With the introduction of OPAC, it is expected to facilitate students' access to various library collection resources optimally and support their academic success while studying at UIN Jakarta. In addition, this year's PBAK 2024 UIN Jakarta will continue until November 23, 2024, with various other interesting activities that aim to equip new students with the knowledge and skills needed during their studies.
