Writing a Thesis? Know Your Purpose, Enjoy Every Process
Inspirational Story - Raditya Dika, a famous comedian, writer, and director, shared his experience about the process of writing a thesis during his college days. “From the beginning of college, I already imagined what I would write for my thesis,” he said in his typical relaxed style, on the occasion of PBAK 2024's Inspiring Speech session, last Tuesday (27/8).
“When I first entered the campus library, I started looking for theses that I thought were fun and interesting. From there, I imagined that I would write a thesis with a theme that suited my interests,” he added.
For Raditya Dika, it is important to have clear goals from the start. That way, every step taken during lectures feels more directed. Every course, every assignment, becomes part of the process towards the preparation of the thesis that he has planned. “If you already know the direction of your thesis from the beginning, college becomes more fun. You will be excited because you already know, this can be used for my thesis later,” he said.
However, Raditya Dika also reminded us that the journey of writing a thesis is not just about the end result, but the process. “Enjoy Every Process,” said Raditya Dika enthusiastically. From research, reading references in the library, to discussions with the supervisor, all of it is a valuable experience and can be enjoyed.
In addition, Raditya Dika encourages students to explore their interests and talents during lectures. “Find what you are good at, because from there it can be a field of work later,” he added. The talents you discover while working on your thesis could be the door to a glorious career in the future. So, don't be afraid to explore, and don't hesitate to set big goals in writing your thesis.
Finally, the main tips from Raditya Dika “know your purpose, enjoy the process, and don't forget to develop interests that can open up many opportunities in the future.” concluded Raditya Dika *RMr
