This is the figure of Abas Khaidir, Preservation Expert of UIN Jakarta Library: High school education background does not make him insecure until the end of his service period
UIN Jakarta Library News Online - In the midst of the glittering academic world that is often dominated by those with high degrees, the figure of Abas Khaidir emerges as proof that passion and dedication are far more important than academic degrees. As a Preservation Specialist at UIN Jakarta Library, Abas Khaidir has shown that his secondary education background is not a barrier to achieving great achievements in his field.
An Inspiring Career Journey
Abas Khaidir, started his career as a staff at UIN Jakarta Library. Armed with a high school diploma, his love for books and his desire to keep learning led him to the field of book preservation and maintenance.
"I was always interested in the history and stories behind each book. That's where my interest in book conservation and preservation began to grow,” said Abas Khaidir in an interview in between his book repair activities.
Self-education and Training
Realizing the importance of specialized expertise in preservation, Abas did not hesitate to continue learning on his own. With strong determination and passion, Abas also learned from various sources, including books, scientific articles, and online video tutorials.
"I believe that education is not only obtained from formal schools. With technology and wide access to information, anyone can learn anything,” he added.
Contribution and Service at UIN Jakarta
Abas' hard work and dedication have paid off. Now, he is trusted as a Preservation Expert at UIN Jakarta Library. His duties include controlling the book storage environment, repairing and restoring damaged books, and educating users on how to properly care for books.
“I feel satisfied and proud to be able to preserve these precious books so that they can still be enjoyed by future generations,” said Abas gratefully.
Inspiring the younger generation
Abas Khaidir's story is evident and has become an inspiration to many people, especially the younger generation who may feel insecure about their educational background. Abas is living proof that with determination, hard work and a passion for learning, anyone can achieve great things.
"I always tell young people, never feel inferior with your educational background. There is always a way to learn and develop, as long as you are willing to try and not give up easily,” he said.
End of Service Period
After years of service and contribution to UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Abas Khaidir will retire (in about 2 years).
"Looking back at my career journey, I feel very grateful. At the end of this period of service, I do not hesitate to continue sharing my knowledge and experience to help maintain the wealth of literacy in Indonesia. And I hope that there will be regeneration and my next successor in the conservation and preservation of library materials so that they are well maintained,” Abas said.
