The Highest Cause of Death of Indonesian Women, "Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UIN Jakarta" invites Women to Health Screening and Prevent Cervical Cancer.

UIN Jakarta Library News Online - One of the highest causes of cancer death for women in Indonesia is cervical cancer. 70% of women diagnosed with cervical cancer have entered an advanced stage, and 50% of women diagnosed with cervical cancer die (Ministry of Health, February 2024). Cervical cancer is a malignant tumor in the cervix that can spread (metasis) to other organs and can cause death (Hoffman, L. B., et al, 2012).

Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UIN Jakarta in collaboration with UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Hospital Jakarta and Prodia Clinical Laboratory in commemoration of "Kartini Day" held a Health Screening and Health Seminar "Early Prevention of Cervical Cancer and Diabetes". The activity took place on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 08.30 - 11.00 WIB on the 7th floor of UIN Jakarta library building.

"This activity is part of the Kartini Day Commemoration series. We make this momentum to carry out special protection for women from cancer. In addition, we use this momentum to invite women to do early detection of cervical cancer" said Mrs. Tati Nut Qomaryati, SE as Chairperson of Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UIN Jakarta in her opening remarks of the seminar "Early Prevention of Cervical Cancer & Diabetes".

Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Alimunhanif, M.A., Ph.D., representing the Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta welcomed this seminar, part of the effort to support awareness of the importance of early detection of cervical cancer in maintaining women's health.

In the seminar, Mrs. Pipih Hanapiah, an experienced health expert from Prodia Clinic, was one of the speakers. In her presentation, Pipih Hanapiah conveyed various methods and the importance of early detection of cervical cancer as a preventive measure in maintaining women's reproductive health.

"In cervical cancer prevention efforts, early detection plays a very important role. Through regular check-ups and the use of appropriate methods, we can identify possible changes in cervical cells that could be an early indication of cancer," said Pipih Hanapiah.

Pipih Hanapiah also explained the various cervical cancer early detection methods available, ranging from the Pap smear method to technologies that combine biomarker analysis and artificial intelligence to improve diagnostic accuracy.

The next speaker, dr. Buyung Berli who serves as the Head of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Clinic, provided insights and shared his knowledge about diabetes, including risk factors, symptoms and preventive measures as well as its management.

As a medical practitioner, dr. Buyung Berli is committed to providing the public with a broader understanding of the importance of diabetes awareness. "Diabetes is a chronic disease that requires serious attention. Not only does it affect the quality of life of its sufferers, but it can also increase the risk of developing serious complications, such as heart disease and kidney failure." Said dr. Buyung Berli.

In his presentation, dr. Buyung Berli explained that lifestyle factors, such as unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity, are one of the main causes of diabetes. However, genetic and environmental factors also play a significant role in the development of this disease.

In addition to providing an understanding of the risk factors, dr. Buyung Berli also highlighted the symptoms of diabetes that need to be watched out for, such as feeling thirsty and hungry, unwanted weight loss, and wounds that are difficult to heal. "Raising awareness of the symptoms of diabetes can allow a person to immediately get the right diagnosis and management," he added.

In the final session, a question and answer session, Pipih Hanipah educated the seminar participants on preventive measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of developing cervical cancer, such as HPV vaccination and a healthy lifestyle. In addition, dr. Buyung Berli provided comprehensive answers to the seminar participants' questions related to diabetes management, including diet, physical activity, and medication use.

At the end, the event organized by Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) UIN Jakarta is expected to provide insight and knowledge and understanding for participants to participate in efforts to disseminate information about the importance of cervical cancer and diabetes detection in the community. In addition, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta becomes the beginning of concrete steps in reducing mortality from cervical cancer in Indonesia, as well as improving the quality of life of women through awareness of the importance of maintaining reproductive health.
