Rectorate Building, UIN News Online- UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta managed to record a world achievement by ranking 101-140 internationally in the QS World University Ranking 2024 in the Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies cluster. This achievement places UIN Jakarta as the only State Islamic Religious University (PTKIN) included in the QS World University Ranking 2024 ranking.
The data released by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024: Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies and accessed by UIN News Online, Monday (15/4/2024), states that the acquisition of rankings 101-140 on related subjects is based on four assessment indicators. The four are academic reputation (52.9), citations per paper (89.3), employer reputation (48), and H-index citations (74.7).
With this ranking, UIN Jakarta now stands on par with many world-class universities from various regions such as the University of Freiburg Germany, Cornell University, Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, Seoul National University, and Universität Leipzig. It is known that these universities have a well-established academic tradition since their establishment.
Germany's University of Freiburg, for example, has been one of the top 10 universities in Germany since it was founded in 1457. Likewise, Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main was founded in 1914 and developed with the ideals of European enlightenment and resistance to racism. Cornell University has also developed its academic tradition since its establishment in 1865 in Ithaca, New York, USA.
From within the country, only Gadjah Mada University and the University of Indonesia accompany UIN Jakarta in the ranking where each occupies the 61st and 130th positions in the world. While UIN Jakarta occupies the 122nd position as well as the only State Islamic Religious University (PTKIN) included in the ranking.
Meanwhile, the top five QS World University Rankings 2024 for the subject of Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies this time in order are occupied by Harvard University, University of Oxford, University of Notre Dame, University of Cambridge, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. Following them are KU Leuven, Durham University, University of Chicago, Duke University, and The University of Edinburgh.
For this achievement, the leadership and academic community of UIN Jakarta expressed gratitude and high appreciation for the hard work of all elements so that various aspects that become ranking indicators are fulfilled. “Thank God we say where Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriyah, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta entered into the QS World University Rankings 2024 on the subject of Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies,” appreciated Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar M.A., Ph.D..
The same appreciation was conveyed by Rector Asep Jahar to the leadership at the Ministry of Religious Affairs so that UIN Jakarta could represent the PTKIN group in the ranking. “This achievement is also inseparable from the support of the Ministry of Religious Affairs so that UIN Jakarta can represent a group of Islamic religious universities in the ranking,” he appreciated again.
Chairperson of the UIN Jakarta World Class University Task Force Team, Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem M.A. Ph.D revealed, the QS World Ranking ranking on related subjects is the first time followed by UIN Jakarta. “This also places UIN Jakarta as the only PTKIN that is included in the QS Ranking ranking system,” she said.
Furthermore, Professor Maila revealed, the achievement of QS WUR for this subject is the result of the performance of all faculties with related fields of science such as the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Faculty of Dirasat Islamiyah, Faculty of Sharia and Law and others. Because more than half of the university's scientific publications come from social and humanitarian groups with emphasis points such as Islamic theology, religious studies, and others.
“In the future, it is hoped that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will continue to become a world-class superior university in various other fields of science, such as computer science, education, science, psychology, politics, health, medicine and others,” he concluded.
It is known that the achievement of ranking is in line with the internationalization program of UIN Jakarta. For this task, UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, formed a World Class University (WCU) task force under the coordination of Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi Kharlie M.A. M.H.
One of the main tasks of this team is to be able to encourage the improvement of the quality and performance of UIN Jakarta's academic institutions so that they are equivalent to world-class campuses where UIN Jakarta is. One of them is encouraging UIN Jakarta to rank 127th in QS Southeast Asia Ranking, and 751-800th in QS Asia Ranking.
To realize this target, the leadership and community of UIN Jakarta continue to be committed to expanding international collaborations in research and teaching, including promoting academic mobility. This includes organizing inbound and outbound guest lecturer programs, including students studying at campuses abroad and vice versa. At the same time, UIN Jakarta continues to increase international publications and participation in global scientific forums. (Maila D./zm/fm)
