Online News - Dr Joko Santoso, M.Hum was officially elected as Chairman of the Indonesian Librarians Association (IPI) for the period 2025-2028. The determination was made by acclamation at the Plenary Session of the XVI IPI Congress which took place in Batam, Thursday (18/9/2025). He replaced T. Syamsul Bahri, who successfully completed two terms of leadership.

The election of Joko Santoso marks a new chapter in the journey of the largest librarian professional organisation in Indonesia. Joko's figure is considered capable of presenting new hopes for Indonesian librarians amid the swift flow of digitalisation and the challenges of the literacy world.

Head of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Library, Agus Rifai, Ph.D., expressed his appreciation and best wishes for Joko Santoso's mandate.
"Congratulations to Mr Joko Santoso on his election as Chairman of IPI. We believe that he is able to bring IPI into a stronger, adaptive, and innovative organisation, and encourage Indonesian librarians to appear as the frontline in building the nation's literacy culture," Agus said.

According to Agus Rifai, the challenges of librarians today are not only limited to information management, but also how to bring about digital library transformation, strengthen collaboration networks, and increase the role of librarians in the world of research and innovation.

"IPI must continue to be a forum for librarian professionalism, a place to share knowledge, and a driver of national literacy," he added.

Hopefully, the new leadership will be able to oversee IPI as an inclusive, adaptive, and competitive professional organisation. Great expectations are also placed on the birth of policy innovations and strategic programmes that can encourage Indonesian librarians to be more empowered and influential. *RMr
