Indonesian Librarian's Day: Here's How UIN Jakarta Library Is Committed to Promotin Literacy

UIN Jakarta Library Building, News Online – The celebration of Indonesian Librarian's Day (July 7, 2026) serves as an oppurtunity for the Library of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta to reaffirm its commitment to strengthening a culture of literacy, expanding access to knowledge, and providing innovative, adaptive library services tailored to the needs of the academic community in the digital age.

Amid the rapid development of information technology and artificial intelligence (AI), libraries are required to continue transforming. No longer serving merely as a repository for collections, the UIN Jakarta Library is now evolving into an adaptive, inclusive, collaborative, and easily accessible learning space. A variety of program —ranging from information literacy clasess to digital services and electronic collections— have been introduced to ensure that access to knowledge can be enjoyed without being limited by time or place.

This commitment is being realized through a number of strategic steps that guide the development of the UIN Jakarta Library, including:

This is realized through the Plaftrom Digital “Touch & Go Mobile Library”, which is accessible in two modes; via the Google AppStore, and via Windows.

Second, to become a library that adapts to technological advancements by providing services relevant to the digital generation, including the use of information technology to improve the quality of services for library users.

Third, integrating literacy services and innovation, by strengthening the Information Literacy Class program, utilizing AI-based technology, and providing a variety of academic services that support the learning process, research, and scientific publications.

Fifth, fostering a culture of participatory service by always being open to criticism, suggestions, and feedback from visitors as part of our commitment to continously improving service quality.

On this occasion, Agus Rifai, Head of the UIN Jakarta Library, said that Indonesian Librarians’ Day is an opportunity to strengthen the role of librarians as strategic partners in the advancement of knowledge and the improvement of higher education.

“Indonesian Librarians’ Day is not only an occasion to recognize the librarian profession, but also a moment to reaffirm that libraries are drivers of literacy and strategic partners in building a learning ecosystem. Libraries must continue to transform so they can meet the needs of the digital generation, which seeks fast, easy, and high-quality access to information,” said Agus Rifai in a statement on Tuesday (July 7).

“Our commitment is to strengthen digital literacy, develop innovative services, and transform the UIN Jakarta Library into a learning space of the future that is open to everyone for learning, researching, collaborating, and creating,” said Agus Rifai.

Furthermore, Agus Rifai added that a library’s success is also determined by the active participation of its patrons. Therefore, the UIN Jakarta Library continues to foster dialogue with all visitors as part of its culture of service improvement.

“We believe that the best service comes from a willingness to keep listening. That’s why every piece of criticism, suggestion, or feedback from visitors serves as positive energy for us to keep improving and delivering even higher-quality service,” said Agus Rifai.

“The library is the heart of a university. It is from the library that the traditions of reading, a culture of research, critical thinking, and innovation are born. Therefore, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will continue to support the transformation of the library into a modern, inclusive, and technology-based space for literacy to support the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education,” said Asep.

The Rector also commended the dedication of all librarians, who have long been at the forefront of providing information services and assisting the academic community in accessing various sources of knowledge. “Happy Indonesian Librarians’ Day to all librarians in Indonesia, especially those at UIN Jakarta. Continue to be lifelong learners, champions of literacy, and guardians of civilization through knowledge. May the spirit of service embodied by librarians continue to inspire the emergence of a generation that is intelligent, of good character, and competitive,” he said.

Marking Indonesian Librarians’ Day, the UIN Jakarta Library reaffirms its commitment to becoming an adaptive, collaborative, inclusive, and innovative space.
