Replica of the Masyhad Husein Mushaf from the Abbasid Dynasty to enliven the Library Festival 2025 at UIN Jakarta
Library Loby, UIN Jakarta, News Online – Replica of the Mushaf Masyhad Husein Mushaf and Mushafs from the Umayyah Dinasty to the Abbasiyah Dinasty were the highlights of the Library Festival 2025 at the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Library in Jakarta. The exhibition, which ran from June 16 to 20, 2025, was packed with visitors captivated by the authenticity of the ancient mushaf collections on display.
The presents of Bayt Al-Qur’an dan Museum Istiqlal (BQMI) at the Library Festival 2025 is a special attaraction. Through this exhibition, BQMI presents a comprehensive visual education on the history of mushaf copying—from the beginning of Islam to the golden age of Islam under the Abbasid Dynasty.
“This is not just an exhibition, but a living historical experience. We are truly amazed by the BQMI collection, especially the highly detailed replica of the Mushaf Masyhad Husein,” said Hayatunnisa, S.IP., manager of the UIN Jakarta Library, on Monday (16/06).
Furthermore, visitors are not only shown the physical form of the mushaf, but are also invited to understand the important transformations in the history of mushaf writing. One such innovation occurred during the Umayyad Dynasty, when harakat (vowel marks) were first introduced using red ink, as an effort to guide the correct recitation of the Qur'an. This system later evolved during the Abbasid period, with the use of more complex colors and the addition of modern vowel marks.
In addition to linguistic aspects, this exhibition also highlights the advancement of Islamic art. During the Abbasid period, calligraphy flourished with the emergence of various styles of khat, turning the mushaf into not only a sacred text, but also a cultural and artistic heritage that showcases the splendor of Islamic civilization.
Unsurprisingly, the BQMI booth was one of the most visited by visitors—including students, lecturers, and the general public interested in Islamic literacy and the history of the Al-Qur'an manuscript.
BQMI's participation in the Library Festival 2025 enriches the visitor experience, while emphasizing the importance of Islamic historical literacy in the academic world. The festival is not only a space for literary appreciation, but also brings visitors into contact with the rich intellectual and spiritual heritage of Muslims, which is steeped in historical value and visual beauty. *RMr
